Arecibo Center for Culturally Relevant and Inclusive Science Education, Computational Skills, and Community Engagement

The Arecibo C3 Center will be a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research center located at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.

The Arecibo C3 Center will connect Ciencia (Science) across the breadth of STEM to create interdisciplinary collaborations and new knowledge; empower learners with Computación (Computing), human-centered computer and data science, and 21st century research skills, and foster Comunidad (Community) around culturally relevant and inclusive values.

Announcing Three New Summer Opportunities for Educators and Students.

Starting this summer, the Arecibo C3 Center (AC3) will begin welcoming students, educators, and the public to the programs we are developing at the site of the National Science Foundation Arecibo Observatory Historic District (AOHD). We’re excited to start sharing with everyone the programs and opportunities we are planning, and creating along with you a new space that will welcome everyone to build upon the legacy of STEM discovery that began here many decades ago.

As we open the next chapter of exploration, it is fitting that some of our new summer programs will feature the sciences of biology and biodiversity. These programs are based on science and learning materials developed by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center.

  • In May, we invite College and high school educators to a three-day intensive workshop on Nanopore DNA Sequencing.
  • In June, we will have four week-long “Summer Science Explorations.” High school students may apply for “DNA Barcoding” explorations and middle school students may apply for the “Fun with DNA.” Transportation options and scholarship opportunities will be available.

Shortly we will also announce other opportunities for the public that will include many other STEM topics including astronomy and data science. Please check back for more announcements and join our mailing list.
